A trip to Paris, epitome of romance and joie de vivre!

Häkelschal Adelia auf antiker Koffer

For me, Paris is the epitome of romance, joie de vivre, elegance and art. That’s why I choose to set the 2021 stitch marker Advent calendar in Paris. Before I reveal details though, I'd like to take you on a little trip...

Early in the morning, you nibble on a crispy croissant or a heavenly pain au chocolat under the marquee of a small café overlooking the Champs de Mars and the Eiffel Tower. After the last sip of the frothy café au lait, you jump on your bike - or better still, your scooter.

You boldly thread your way into the morning traffic. You cross the Seine and soon you circle three time around the Arc de Triomphe on the Place de l'Étoile (I know it's been called Place Charles de Gaulle since 1970, but Place de l'Étoile just sounds better).

With a big smile on your face, you now drive down Avenue des Champs Élysées towards Place de la Concorde and the Tuilleries. Rue de Rivoli brings you to Rue Cambon, where Coco Chanel opened her haute couture salon in 1918.

But now, it's time for a brunch on the terrace of a charming bistro. You ravenously devour a croque monsieur and share the last crumbs with a cheeky sparrow that is already hopping impatiently around the table. Then you buy a box of exquisite treats like macarons and petit-fours at the boulangerie across the street. You strap the box onto the back of your scooter and make your way to the 11th arrondissement, to the rendezvous near the Canal Saint-Martin with your beloved.

Hand in hand, you stroll along the Quai de Jemmapes. From the cabin of one of the docked péniches (barges), the sounds of an accordion reach you. The slightly melancholic music invites you to linger. On a bench overlooking the canal, you enjoy the delicacies you have brought with you and in the background the melody of Édith Piaf's La vie en rose melts into the sleepy calm of the now late afternoon.

And? Was I able to persuade you? Will you come with me on the 24-day journey to Paris? A journey in the footsteps of Coco Chanel, a journey full of joie de vivre, romance and anticipation?
